"Come, O house of Jacob, let us walk in the Light of the Lord," Isaiah 2:5 is the chosen scripture from which we take our theme "Walk in the Light of the Lord." On June 4 we will begin our walk in the light of the Lord with our sisters in Christ at our 20th biennial district convention. The Raritan Zone invites all of the women of the NJ LC-MS District to join us.
The convention begins on Friday morning at 9:00 am with our servant events. This year we will be preparing care packages for our service men and women, putting together health kits and writing cards of thanks to our clergy. Our convention opens at 1:00 pm on Friday afternoon with the lighting of the convention candle and songs of praise to our Savior. Special guests and speakers include our LWML National Vice President of Gospel Outreach, Marilyn McClure who will bring us greetings from national and information about activities of the LWML. We are especially blessed to have with us Rev. James D. Buckman, who is currently serving our district as Urban & Immigrant Mission Strategist and will speak to us about his exciting work helping to establish house churches and bring the gospel to immigrants in our state. Rev. Dr. Anthony Steinbronn, NJ LC-MS Mission Executive, will also speak to us about his work. Our LWML Pastoral Counselor, Rev. Roy Minnix will lead us in our opening worship. Guiding our bible studies Friday and Saturday will be Kathy Haines, a graduate of Leaders and Learners. Her study will focus on our scripture and theme. Did you know that the word "light" is mentioned 260 times in the Bible? The convention banquet will be on Friday night at 7:30 pm and will include reports from grant recipients of how your mites have been used to spread the Good News! There will also be entertainment and great food. The convention resumes on Saturday morning with singing at 8:30. Some of the business we will conduct will include the selection of mission grants for the next biennium, election of officers and a very short by-law update. Other activities happening during the convention include the art contest with work from children throughout the district in different mediums highlighting the convention theme. We will be collecting quilts made by the societies to send to Lutheran World Relief. The prayer chapel will be open throughout the convention and we encourage all to come in and pray for any and all of the many requests posted here. The convention will be at the Somerset Ramada Inn in Somerset off Route 287. All of the information about registration, times and costs have been mailed out to each society and will be posted on our website. Here you will find registration forms, flyers to post in your church, details about the "Gifts of the Heart", applications for Young Women Representatives to the convention and people to contact for questions. The officers of the district will also be bringing this information to the zone rallies in April and May. We look forward to walking with you in the Light of the Lord.
